Here are a couple suggestions.
Hard times and Holy Places by Kristen Warner Belcher
The story is extraordinary. The doctors discover the cancer has returned and to rid her of the cancer they must remove her eye leaving her blind. It is quite a journey. Trust me you will enjoy this book.
I am a Malcolm Gladwell fan. I enjoyed The Tipping Point. I was fascinated by Blink...the idea that we make judgements in the blink of an eye. Sometimes they are correct and sometimes they are not. I just started What the Dog Saw and if the preface is anything like the book itself, I will certainly be happy reading it. Outliers, by far, has been my favorite. It is the story of success. Perhaps people find success because of the time of their birth in history, or because of their culture, or their upbringing and heritage, or opportunity, or from their own hard work. I will not give away what he thinks, but you will be richly rewarded by the last chapter. To truly receive the reward you must read the whole book. Enjoy.
Trevor and I are Brandon Mull fans. This author writes the Fablehaven series, The Candy Shop War, and Pingo. Fablehaven is a fantasy book series. It has a brother and sister team going on many adventures to fight all kinds of interesting creatures. They are aided by their grandparents. I enjoy reading them aloud and have to limit the number of chapters we read each night. Get going on this series since book 5 comes out in March. The Candy Shop War was Trevor's favorite book. A lady owns a magical candy shop and 4 friends become enchanted by her. I especially like the questions at the end of each book. I always act like they are part of the reading and I have learned some great things about Trevor.
